Those who have frequented the movie theater anytime in the last few months have witnessed the awe-inspiring trailer for A Star is Born. The film, featuring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this fall on August 31, 2018. According to critics, the film unsurprisingly solidified its title as one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year. In fact, A Star is Born has earned a respectable 8.9 rating from IMDb and an even more impressive 95 percent rating from the Rotten Tomatoes “Tomatometer.”

“What is A Star is Born about?” According to IMDb, the film is a unique take on the tragic love story trope, centered around a famous musician named Jackson Maine, played by Bradley Cooper. Jackson stumbles upon (and ends up falling for) a defeated and undiscovered singer named Ally, played by Lady Gaga. Just as Ally finds herself on the verge of giving up her dream of making it big in the cutthroat world of the music industry, Jack discovers her and pulls her into the limelight. As Ally’s talent is highlighted and her music career is jumpstarted, Jack begins to face many of his own internal trials and tribulations that ultimately end up taking a serious toll on their relationship.

While it is known that this movie is Lady Gaga’s first step into the world of film, many eager viewers aren’t aware that A Star is Born also serves as Bradley Cooper’s debut as a movie director. The film is also a remake of a classic. Actually, it’s a remake of a remake of a remake of an original from 81 years ago! That’s right, way back in 1937 William Wellman first brought the story to the screen. 17 years later, the tale of love appeared again, featuring Judy Garland. Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson also took a stab at it in 1976. Though small details and a few names have been tweaked, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are here to birth a star once more.

Lucky for students at Florida State University, the Askew Student Life Center is hosting an exclusive, advanced screening of A Star is Born on Wednesday, October 3, 2018—a whole two days before the movie premieres everywhere else on October 5, 2018! Tickets are available via download through Uberduzi.com or they can, alternatively, be picked up from the Askew Student Life Center Information Desk. It’s highly suggested that you get one as soon as physically possible because the screening is definitely going to be packed. The official Facebook Event for the screening already currently lists 124 people “going” and 947 people that are “interested.” The tickets are definitely a hot commodity. The doors to the SLC will open at 7 p.m. and the screening will begin at 8 p.m., although there will surely be a line hours before, so be sure to arrive early.

Tawnie Simpson is a Senior Editing, Writing, and Media student at Florida State University. She enjoys (needs) a good cup of cold brew, she comes from a small town nobody knows called "about an hour south of Tampa" and she is often mistaken for 10-year-old Lindsay Lohan, but she's not complaining.
