What better way to end the summer but with a nice teen romance! Not only is the main character Lara Jean an icon in so many ways, but also the film itself has so many qualities of greatness. For those who are still on the fence about watching To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, here are seven reasons why you need to watch it.
1. Its a romantic comedy
Â
The movie centers around relationships and romance. Who doesn’t like a good romantic chick flick to make you happy? This movie sure does the trick! Romantic comedies are the perfect time for some self-care. Put your favorite deep conditioner in your hair or paint your nails and enjoy this feel good movie.
Â
2. Fashion
Â
Lara Jean’s fashion is out of this world! From knee highs, to platform boots, you name it. She had it! Her fashion sense makes you want to go back to high school and renew your fashion sense. She was simple, yet chic, calm yet trendy all in one.
Â
3. Lara Jean
Â
The main character Lara Jean is relatable. She made everyone feel as though this could happen to them. Usually in romantic comedies, you get a sense of “this only happens in movies” not for this one. When you are watching this movie, you will forget that you are watching a movie. It’s as if Lara Jean is one of your friends.  Â
Â
4. Asian Americans
Â
This movie has a diverse cast. The lead character is a sixteen-year-old half-Korean, half-Caucasian girl, which is more than you find in most movies. Asian American culture was prominent in the movie. It is refreshing and exciting to see a romantic comedy with a minority as the main character because it does not happen that often.
Â
5. Communication
Â
Expressing yourself can be hard for some people. Yet, in this movie Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky seem to have no problem getting each other to open up about personal things that have shaped who they are currently. Also, the movie has good representation of facing traumatic events.
Â
6. Overcoming fears
Â
There is a great amount of fear instilled in high schoolers. This movie portrays a lot of them especially when it comes to relationships. Lara Jean fears relationships and falling in love, but the way she overcomes these obstacles is something worth watching. Â
Â
7. Reciprocity
The dynamic between all relationships in this movie was strong. Lara jean has a strong connection with her family, especially her older sister Margot. She had a deep connection with Peter, even though she was afraid to admit it. The mutual reaction and feelings that both of them have for each other makes the movie authentic because there is no unrequited love. Â Â
Â
8. Switching of Social Status
Lara Jean gets a serious social status upgrade going from her life being in shambles, Â feeling invisible, loving her sisters boyfriend, and being consumed with the concept of love, to her having the attention of all her peers. Any teenager would kill for that kind of switch up! If she can do it, so can we.
