As we all know, summertime is here and in full affect! There is absolutely nothing stopping the sun from shining and the humidity from making you sweat. With summer time comes tons of fun, but it also comes with trouble in natural hair paradise. It’s too hot for a wig, you’ll sweat your lace glue off. Braids? Out of the question on a day in Savannah when it’s 90 degrees because they’ll make your back hot and your head even hotter. A sew in? Well, it’ll be cute for a while but all that moisture from sweat locked up under your du is going to make your foundation loose and before you know it, it’s time for a new one. So, what is the best solution to summer hair? Wearing it out naturally of course!

I’m one to talk because I always want my hair done. Doesn’t matter if it’s raining, sleeting, or if a hurricane is outside, I WANT my hair done. However, I’ve realized that summer is prime growing time for us natural girls and it’s also a good time to experiment with different products, along with some D.I.Y hair masks to lock in moisture and enhance your curls! Recently I’ve started using Shea Moisture products to wash and condition my hair and Cantu to define my curls. Both products have done wonders for my 4A hair!

Unfortunately, I started to realize that my scalp absorbs oils and moisturizers quickly. I added PINK Moisturizer to my process and realized that I need something more saturated like PINK to keep it moisturized for at least two to three days. With further research I discovered some D.I.Y (do it yourself) natural hair remedies that include using natural products like; avocado, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, coconut milk, coconut oil, honey, lemon and eggs. All of which are perfect for trapping in moisture for all hair types! Each product has a specific function that it performs for your hair to prevent breakage, cleanse, and moisturize. The good thing about using household items is that they are even more affordable than some of the natural hair products that are sold on the market and often much better to use. In addition to using these products, we as natural hair-tistas must be able to find the perfect style for the summer that can hold our hair in tact through heat. Bantu knots, sleek buns, and cornrows are always an easy go-to style for those hot summer days. Click the links below to find more D.I.Y hair tips and styles!
