I joined Her Campus at the beginning of my freshman year when I felt uncertain and terrified of being in a new city at such a large university. I was lucky enough to be a staff writer for Her Campus at UCD for two years, and I have loved writing for such an empowering and inspirational publication. Although I am unable to continue next year, I sincerely appreciate everything I’ve learned.
Most obviously, Her Campus has helped me become a better writer. It was incredibly important to me as it provided both a sense of community and an outlet for anxiety or frustration. I also learned a lot about myself through writing for Her Campus. I continuously thought through bouts of writer’s block when I struggled to think of new articles. This made me really look in depth at my interests and news I found impactful to eventually come up with an article. Although writing about my thoughts and emotions used to be difficult, I learned how to channel my feelings into coherent and concise sentences.
I was introduced to a community of strong womxn who have truly been an honor to work with. My fellow members taught me a lot about compassion and leadership through their support of each other. I look forward to being continuously inspired, amused, and informed by new articles they write!
