Debra Williams is the founder of Campus Canopies, a company that makes the first freestanding structure to surround college dorm room beds. With designer curtain panels providing 7 feet of privacy, this is something you do not want to miss! Campus Canopies launched here at UCLA this past November and we were able to try it out!
First of all, I’d like to start by saying that I live in my sorority house in a room with 23 girls. Yes, you read that right. 23 girls in one room. As you can imagine, living in a room with so many other people can be quite distracting. It isn’t all that bad since we have a 24/7 dark and quiet rule. But, anyways, people use their flashlights at night and alarms go off in the morning and it’s hard to find privacy. Don’t get me wrong, I love living there but when I found out about Campus Canopies, I knew I had to have one for my bed!
I chose the light blue fabric as it matches my bedding and when it arrived in the mail, I could not wait to put it up! The set up was pretty straight forward with a rope that strung through the curtains and attached on each end of the bed and a carabiner in the center to hold the line from drooping.Â
The fabric itself is super light and slides easily along the rope which is nice for getting in and out of bed. I also am a fan of how well the canopy blocks out light. I noticed right away that when I sat in bed with the curtains closed, it was significantly darker which is especially nice when I’m trying to sleep at night.Â
My biggest concern was that the curtain wouldn’t stay up or would get messed up because I tend to move around a lot when I sleep. However, this was not the case. When I woke up in the morning, the canopy had not moved the slightest bit, which impressed me.Â
Overall, I highly recommend a Campus Canopy for anyone looking for more privacy, or even just a change of aesthetic in your room. Make sure to check them out here! Now excuse me while I sit in my new cave and binge some Netflix.
