Jerzdays Are Back And They’re Better Than Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

“Get crazy, get wild, let’s party get loud, if you wanna have fun and do something, if you wanna have fun and do something,” IT’S BACK! JERSEY SHORE IS BACK! AFTER 7 YEARS MTV REBOOTED JERSEY SHORE! Can you tell I’m excited?

Jersey Shore was most definitely a show 9-year-old me should not have been watching but was I? Of course I was…it was all the rage in the early 2000s. A show long forgotten when I came to college with faint memories of Snooki slippers, the Sam and Ron debacle, t-shirt time, MVP, GTL, and the notorious J-Woww. And then, MTV did the unthinkable and rebooted one of their trashiest and most entertaining shows ever. I was on the phone with my best friend freaking out when MTV announced Jersey Shore: Family Reunion was coming in April. All those memories flooded back and 9-year-old me was ridiculously excited.

April has finally come around and the winding down of the semester is beginning with finals right around the corner, but do not fear, you will still catch me streaming Jersey Shore at 8 on Jerzdays (Thursday).

It’s wild watching how much – yet simultaneously how little – these “adults” have changed. Half the family is married, there are kids on the way, girlfriends in the picture, and everyone is 10 years older…somehow none of that is stopping them though.

This season the family is returning to Miami to party. Though their lives have matured greatly, give them some alcohol and clubs and suddenly they are back in 2009. It was nostalgic to watch Snooki get so drunk she peed in the pool and hear Pauly screaming “CABS ARE HERE!”

The biggest real-life problem faced in the first episode was that Mike “The Situation” is currently in a legal case against the United States for tax evasion, facing up to 5 years in jail. Mike was my least favorite of the group back in the day, with his low-life attitude and creepy antics, but he is now proudly 2 years sober and has changed his whole persona. It is unfortunate to see him struggle through such a legal battle when he is no longer that person, and it seems most of his family members from the shore believe the same.

One of the biggest questions fans were dying to know was if Sam would be returning to the shore. Unfortunately, the Sam and Ronnie drama would not continue into 2018 as Sam decided not to return, but that didn’t stop Pauly from bringing a life-sized Sam doll to the Miami mansion. The crew got a laugh and a scare out of the doll which was quickly destroyed within the first episode.

At the end of the day, not much has changed with the fam. They are just as excited to be together as they were season one and they are still trying to get fist-bumping to be a thing in the clubs. I’m sure there will be drama in the coming weeks because it doesn’t matter how old that group gets, they will always be the same 20-year-olds that met on the Jersey Shore.

Tune into MTV on Jerzdays to follow the cast on their journey through Miami! And remember…Gym, Tan, Laundry…the key to success.
