Some dream of being Millionaires. Others dream of getting married and having kids. My dream is to meet and become best friends with the one and only Shane Dawson. For those of you who do not know who he is, Shane is a YouTuber and movie director. When he first started on YouTube, he did a lot of comedy sketches, however, in the past couple years he has also done Conspiracy Theory videos, Interviews and a lot of other new content. There are many, many reasons on why I think this man is The Unofficial King of YouTube, but I will only list a few of my personal favorites.
Â
1. Mama Dawson
Â
Â
If you watch Shane’s videos, you have definitely met Mama Dawson. Theresa Yaw is the amazing mother of Shane who can be described by no words. She is funny. She throws shade around like confetti (sorry Lisa Rinna). She loves Jesus. She is a fierce, independent woman. Most importantly, she loves her family and supports Shane, even when he does some crazy things.
Â
2. His friends are actually really great too
Â
Â
Garrett Watts. Trisha Paytas. Drew Monson. The list can go on and on but long story short, they’re literally all great. Shane surrounds himself and features great people in his videos who are just as real as him. They’re also just as crazy, funny, weird and entertaining as he is. All I can say is that if I could hang with any friend group, it would be them.
Â
3. We can’t bring up his family and friends without mentioning his children
Â
Â
For those of you who do not know, Shane currently has four children; one cat, two dogs and of course Tyler. Although his animals will judge you (mostly Cheeto the cat…) just as much as Shane will, they’re actually adorable and can be seen in many of his videos. Shane loves all his babies and even features entire videos about them.
Â
4. He is mean but in the best, hilarious way
Â
Â
Anyone can be mean, but only truly great people can take an insult and make someone actually die of laughter with it. Whether Shane is throwing shade, commenting on his Garrett’s questionable decisions or even talking down to himself, he manages to make take serious things and make them into hilarious content.
Â
5. He isn’t afraid of being uncensored
Â
Â
YouTube is notorious for having crazy censorship rules, especially if you would like to have ads on your videos. Although he constantly jokes about being brand friendly, he makes videos that are real and that may even lose him money because he wants to make not only what he wants and what his fans want, even if that means interviewing in a bathtub, recreating “sexy” pictures or even making conspiracy theory videos.
Â
6. He has unique and original content
Â
Â
The worst part of YouTube is seeing YouTubers make THE SAME EXACT VIDEO. Although Shane does make some trendy videos, he always puts his own little spin on them to make them different. Even when Shane vlogs, he takes you on adventures that are actually fun and entertaining. Not to mention, within the last year Shane has started making video series that are about a range of things, from learning to (kinda) parent to attempting to live a Trisha Paytas lifestyle.
Â
7. He is Youtube Ellen
Â
Â
Ellen makes dreams come true. Like her, Shane takes the dreams of friends, family members and fans and attempt to make those a reality. He got his cameraman (Andrew Siwicki) a date with his dream woman. He introduced his sister-in-law (Morgan Adams) to Josh Peck, who is her ultimate celebrity crush. He even taught Molly Burke, a famous blind YouTuber, how to drive a car. Although some think he does this for views, he does it because he loves the people who he surrounds himself with and he wants them to be happy.
Â
8. He wrote a book who got people who hate books to read
Â
Â
I am personally not a reader. I do not enjoy sitting and opening a good book, however, Shane managed to write two books that had me reading for hours. I Hate My Selfie and It Gets Worse are the two books that he wrote which are both about his life and about the terrible things that have happened to him. Although it may seem sad, he takes his experiences and makes you laugh and shows the good things that can happen, even when things seem like they literally can’t get any worse.
Â
9. He is willing to share the real things that go on in his life to help others
Â
Â
The best thing about Shane is that he is real. A lot of people on YouTube create a perfect persona that they think will get them views, but now Shane. He talks about his struggles, his insecurities and even the really unfortunate things that have happened to him in the past. He doesn’t talk about these things to get more views or to get more subscribers. He talks about them because he knows these are real problems and that if someone hears him talk about it, they might feel a little better knowing that they aren’t alone. He talks about his weight and how he has struggled with it since before he can remember. He even talks about bulimia and how he has recovered from the deadly disorder. He talks about growing up poor and growing up with a single mom. He talks about the fear he felt when coming out of the closet to not only his family and friends but also the YouTube community and everyone else in the world.
Â
Although some people may see Shane Dawson as just some YouTuber, he is a lot more than that. He is someone who cares about those all around them. He is someone who has made a living off of giving others the best gift of all, laughter. He is someone who doesn’t give a cr*p about what others think and does what he wants to do. He is The King of YouTube and if you have yet to experience his greatness, his social media links in will below.Â
