Last year I came at you with 10 Shows Guaranteed to Help You Procrastinate that encompassed some of my favorite binge worthy shows of all time. While I still admire these shows, it is time I bring you a new edition of my favorite binge worthy shows that I have watched since my first edition circa April 2017. Without further or do, my top midterm avoiding shows to watch:
Â
Black Mirror
Now I know this is not a new show with the first season airing in 2011, but it took me until sometime in the fall 2017 semester to actually watch it. The first episode I watched of it was Nosedive back in 2016 and it completely turned me away from the show. However friends kept hyping it up so I decided to give it another shot and I am glad I did. I think the issue I was having is I didn’t understand what the point of all these messed up situations, but now am able to grasp that the show is depicting real dangers and unanticipated consequences of advanced technology. 10/10 would recommend and like I said, although it is not new, season 4 did just come out December 2017.

Mindhunters
If you are into crime shows, Mindhunters is the show for you. Mindhunters is the inside story of the FBI behavioral/crime unit based on real events and characters. The show gives background as to how they came up with the term “serial killers” and how they came up with a method to identify them. The show features the two main characters, Holden Ford and Bill Tench who go into high security prisons where known serial killers are locked up and interview them for research into how to profile criminals. This was a 10 episode season and the finale left a cliffhanger for a potential season 2.
Â
Drug Lords
Drug Lords is a Netflix original documentary series in which each episode is dedicated to a known drug dealers. The debut episode features notorious Pablo Escobar and then funnels to other dealers from there. The show features real footage and real people involved with these dealers and the law enforcement that helped take them down. In some cases, the dealer himself is even featured. Â
Â
Trump An American Dream
Let me preface this one with this: Trump is not my favorite person, I did not vote for him and I do not approve of him or his antics, but I wanted to watch the show to educate myself about his life prior to becoming president. Additionally, the description said that critics of Trump would also be featured thus making me want to hear what they had to say. The show was interesting because it shows young real-estate guru Trump with the same mannerisms he has today. The only catch is that it was okay for a pop culture figure to talk and act that way but now he is president, whether or not his previously accepted behavior is acceptable has now come into question.
Stranger Things
I’m sure you’ve heard about this one by now but the second season was even better than the first and kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time. If you haven’t heard, Stranger Things is a Netflix original sci-fi horror series. The second season starts off with all the characters trying to return to a normal life after the events that took place in the first. Not to give any spoilers but that doesn’t go all that well and the cast ends up finding themselves on a quest to solve the mysterious events that have been happening in Hawkins, Indiana.
Â
The End of the F***ing World
This is another Netflix original series but like Black Mirror it is a British show. I watched this show per the recommendation of some of my friends and my first impression is that it was weird at first but it got pretty good throughout. It was different to say the least but really played on young love and hardships teens face.
Â
House of Cards
House of Cards is a politics and scandal heavy drama starring Kevin Spacey. Spacy plays a ruthless leader who will do anything to get his way and to get more power. His wife comes into play another very large roll as she too proves herself to be just as ruthless. Although Spacey, is no longer going to remain a member of the cast for the final season due to sexual assault accusations, the show was already moving in a direction that left room for his disposal so I don’t think it will have that large of an impact. And if it does have a large impact on the show, at least the first five seasons are binge acceptable.
Â
A Master of None
This one is a Netflix original comedy written by comedian Aziz Ansari. This show has two seasons and I really liked the lighthearted yet real life aspect this show brings. The show is apparently loosely based on Aziz’s life experiences in which he plays a struggling actor in New York City named Dev. The show is about Dev and his day to day life trying to make it big in New York all while trying to find love and friendships. If you like Aziz as a stand up comedian you will surely enjoy this one.

This goes without saying that you should still totally watch the new seasons of This Is Us, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder but if you were looking for some new shows outside what is played on ABC here you go. I would also like to note that all of the above shows are Netflix original shows which is incredible that they are able to compete with big networks like ABC.
