Dealing With Registration At Babson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Babson chapter.

It’s that time of the semester when you’re busy as ever but IT’S TIME TO STRESS ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE PLANNING TO TAKE NEXT SEMESTER!

Will you overload? Will you get into that NST? Will you have a 2.1 rated professor? Or, will you take a chance with a TBA (I have two of these for next semester)?

No worries, I’m here to tell you that it’s all good because here are some things that you should have in mind while preparing for Registration.

1. Rate my professor is a friend, but don’t trust it 100% of the time

Although you may find that a professor is rated really high (close to a 5.0) or really low (nearing a 1.0) do not always assume that this is accurate. Remember that rate my professor is a public website and that anyone who is feeling some type of way can go on there to rant or play up a professor.

2. Make sure to set your alarm.

It doesn’t matter if you have a 7:00 am time slot or 7:30 am one because you better be up and awake (enough) to get your classes. Set as many alarms as you may need to make sure that you’re mentally ready for it.

3. There is NO perfect browser.

I have tried Chrome. I have tried Firefox. I have tried Safari. I will never try Internet Explorer. That being said, just go with the flow and refresh as fast as you can.

4. Your time slot is everything

Babson rotates time slots based on your last name (and the number of credits you have applies as well) so when you get your Registration time slot, you need to see whether you are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or last pick compared to everyone in your class.

5. Plan ahead

No matter how confident you are with your time slot, your internet browser, or whatever else, make sure you make many different schedules. I would recommend at least three because when the time comes, your backups, backups to your backups, and the rest will come in handy.

6. Don’t lose hope. There is always class track!

Even if you didn’t get the professor you wanted, or a class during the time you need, class track is there. I’ve heard stories of class track miracles from getting the FME (Foundations of Management of Entrepreneurship) course you wanted to snatching that 5.0 rated professor. When a class fills up, just class track because people always change their minds.

At the end of the day, there is no perfect strategy for Registration. Do what works for you and I wish you the best of luck with Registration!
