We were graced with Demi Lovato’s presence on March 17 at the Bell Centre, here in Montreal. I want to start off with “wow.” Demi Lovato knows how to capture my spirit. Not only is Demi talented, but she’s so real. She embraces any time she messes up, she communicates with her audience and she shows a lot of appreciation for them.
I’ll start from the very beginning. Kehlani, a 22 year old singer who is up and coming as a solo artist, had about 30 minutes before DJ Khaled came out for what felt like an hour.
Kehlani was very talented, way more talented than I expected. She was fun to watch and great to listen to. I don’t know about you guys, but usually when I go to a concert I am not too interested in the opening acts. However, Kehlani made the wait for Demi very pleasant.
Then, DJ Khaled came out and did his jump…hop…dance? You know the one he did during the latest Grammy’s when he performed with Rihanna? Definitely something to check out. You know what though? I honestly really enjoyed DJ Khaled too! He was funny with his dance moves, and I’m pretty sure if I drank every time he said “anotha one” or “DJ KHALED!,” I would be wasted. But, in all honesty, he is definitely made for good entertainment.
Finally, the queen arrived, and her entrance was epic! If you know the intro of the song “Tell me you love me” I am sure you can just imagine how epic the entrance was. She sang all the songs from her new album and had us channeling our inner Spanish vibes with her song with with Luis Fonsi – Échame La Culpa.
Something you don’t see very often in a concert at the Bell Centre, or maybe something I haven’t seen often at the Bell Centre is a kiss cam. Obviously, at hockey games, they’re more likely. However, when Demi sang “Cool for the Summer” she had a kiss cam going and had it choosing couples in the crowd, and it was honestly so amazing! Some of the couples or friends or family made it really entertaining to watch!
Let me tell you a little bit about the sexy dancers she had along with her performances. I mean, they were so good. Some of their choreography to the songs was very sexual and I’m sure a lot of parents who were there with their children were cursing. But for me and my friends who are in our 20’s, having grown up listening to Demi Lovato, we were so pumped to see her take that route. It was sexy, and mature, and overall real for the age she’s at.
She had her main stage set up at one end of the arena, and she also had a mini stage set up on the other side which consisted of a bed. At one point throughout the concert she was performing where the bed was and it was sexy. When I say sexy, I mean ouf! During this particular part of the concert, she had two dancers doing a contemporary choreography which was so beautiful, and so raw. It was definitely something you don’t see at concerts often, and it was great!
Finally, she slowed it down a little bit and had a heart to heart with the crowd. She sang her song “Father” about her late dad and talked about how she’s been sober six years.
There were definitely a mix if sad and happy tears that could have flooded the arena.
Nonetheless, Demi Lovato left her mark in Montreal once again. You don’t have to know any of her music to still have a great time watching her perform, it was just that great.
Keep an eye out for the next time she’s on tour, it might be in a while, but it’s definitely something you don’t want to miss.
