How did you get involved with the club and why?

I got involved with this club through my peer mentor, Madison Brooks. As she got to know me better, she found out that I love to write and had me talk to her roommate Taylon Baker, another staff writer. She gave me the right information and I immediately got started with Her Campus UK.

 

What is your favorite part about being a writer?

My favorite part about writing is the FREEDOM. For Her Campus, I am able to write about whatever interests me and whatever I feel people should know. This makes writing exciting and new every week.

 

Any challenges about being a writer?

Getting stuck. Whether my conflict is what to write about, the wording, or the flow of the content, getting writer’s block is a real thing. However, I like the challenges that I face because they push me to figure it out and become a better writer.

 

Are you involved in other clubs on campus? If so, which ones?

I am involved in College Mentors for Kids, an organization where college students get to spend a few hours a week mentoring younger kids from elementary schools in the area. These kids are prospected to possibly not attend college so our goal is to get them acquainted with all college has to offer. I am also in the LexEngaged Living Learning program where students learn and take part in social justice and activism in our community.

 

What is your dream job?

I hope to be a Mental Health Social Worker or Victim Advocate and to work with teenagers.

 

Hobbies?

I work in the summers as a camp counselor at Camp Ondessonk so I LOVE going on hikes, finding new places and spectacular views is my favorite part. I also like watching netflix, working out, reading, drawing and spending time with friends/family.

 

Any advice for new students?

Be confident in yourself! Do not hesitate to introduce yourself, get involved and make connections. It may be a big school but we are all human and chances are you will not regret putting yourself out there.

 

What is your favorite memory so far at UK?

My favorite memories so far have been the Caturdays. Football Saturdays are a big ordeal for SEC schools and they are a great opportunity to spend quality time with friends.
