As a person who has suffered from the annoying repercussions of acne during the ever so beautiful journey of puberty, I have tried every possible option of acne scar treatments. I have seen what works and what does not, and there are a lot that do not.
However, after many trials and tribulations, I have learned that natural products (many that you can find at home or at your local supermarket) are what have helped me the most with acne scarring. In general, I also try to avoid any chemicals in my skin care routine, because I am a person who prefers the natural remedies and not poisoning my body. If you are like me and suffer from constant reminders of that one time you had a pizza face, here are some more natural remedies that I, in the words of the Kardashians, Bible, work.
1. Vitamin E
Let’s begin with the heavy hitter: vitamin E. Vitamin E is medically proven to reduce the appearance of scarring. You can get Vitamin E through oils, supplements, and most importantly, your diet. You can easily find it in green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, and even some cereal.
2. Aloe Vera
Next is my absolute favourite, and I truly swear by this not just for acne scars but for almost any ailments: Aloe vera
The best kind of Aloe vera (AKA the kind with the least amount of added chemicals) comes from straight out of the Aloe vera leaf itself. It’s easy to find in your local grocery story, or you can even plant and grow your own.  Aloe vera contains powerful antioxidant compounds which can inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria. It also accelerates the healing process for wounds and improves skin elasticity.
3. DIY SolutionÂ
I use this solution almost every day, and all it requires is lemon juice, tumeric and honey.
Mixing these ingredients together and either dabbing it on the areas where needed or going full-fledged face mask allows the skin to naturally lift the appearance of acne scarring. Honey contains natural antibiotics that protect against bacteria that cause acne, while healing damaged skin cells, and naturally bleaches away scars.
4. Tea Tree Oil
And lastly, is tea tree oil: the magical gift from Down Under.
It comes from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant of Australia and is an excellent antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral essential oil. This treatment is best used on raised and red scars. It has anti-inflammatory effects which will help in ridding of these kind of scars. Tee tree oil can also be found in many face creams—I personally use the one by Thursday Plantation before I apply my makeup.
All in all, everyone gets acne and everyone has imperfections; they shouldn’t stop you from living your best life. I hope these treatments will help you in your journey of loving yourself (including any scars that you may have). Oh, and most importantly, DON’T PICK YOUR FACE!
