High-fashion brands are no strangers to turning to the wonderful world of Disney to inspire their collections. Minnie Mouse influenced Coach’s recent collection, the Disney Princesses were muses of Dolce & Gabbana, and Rag & Bone went to a galaxy far, far away to create a Star Wars collection back in December. Opening Ceremony is the latest brand to turn to the House of Mouse, debuting “The Happiest Show on Earth” collection inspired by Mickey Mouse. The fashion show was set on March 8th in the iconic Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland as a unique collaboration with Disney to celebrate Mickey’s 90th birthday. As a hardcore Disney fan, I fell in love with the retro-chic vibes of the collection and started plotting on how I can get my hands on these pieces. Here are the coolest looks from the Disney x Opening Ceremony collection.
1. Can you spot the hidden Mickey? Not the all over Mickey print, but the circular sleeves are the ones that create a mouse ears effect, which adds a hint of avant-garde and an extra Disney element to an otherwise simple dress.
2. The optical illusion of Mickey Mouse on the pants is what elevates the look. It’s a creative way to incorporate Mickey in both parts of the look without overpowering it and making it look like a costume.
3. This look is an ode to Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom. The crop top and the shorts are pretty simple and cute, giving off retro vibes (perfectly in line with the theme of Main Street) while the jacket screams Mickey Mouse in a chic and wearable manner.Â
4. The simplicity of the structure of this deep V-neck dress and the lowkey Mickey Mouse outline in red and white make it so versatile. It would look great with your favorite pair of sneakers during the day or a pair of heels for a night out.
5. This is easily my favorite look from the collection. The crop top is perfectly simple as the pants are the star of the show. The Mickey print all over the pants looks like a floral print at first glance which gives a subtle, yet innovative, nod to the Mouse Who Started It All.Â
