Tips for Incoming Freshman at ECU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ECU chapter.

Welcome Class of 2021! I know you don’t start school for a couple of months but I wanted to give you these tips before you arrive on campus. These are the things I’ve learned here at East Carolina my freshman year.

1. Don’t overpack

I packed so much stuff and I didn’t use half of it. I brought a lot of dresses and cute outfits but I mostly wore t-shirts, leggings, and shorts. You’ll also aquire a lot of free tshirts. Pack things you know you’ll use.

2. Don’t spend all of your pirate meals/purple bucks too soon

First semester I barely went to the dining hall and I ran out of bucks in October. I was so mad at myself. I know the 2 Chickfila’s on campus are tempting but try to spread out your meal plan throughout the semester.

3. Join an organization

This is so important. Every college student should join something, whether it be a sorority/fraternity, intermurral sports, or a interest club. I joined the English Club, I write for Her Campus, I was briefly a member of the Pre-Law club, and now I’m going to be a RA next year! This also helps you meet people who like the things you do.

4. Go to Joyner Library

Club Joyner is my favorite place on campus. It’s hard for me to study in my room because I’m easily distracted. I come to the library almost everyday. I put in headphones and I get to work. The starbucks is a life saver.

5. Have fun, but don’t party too much

Collge isn’t for everyone and that’s okay! I know of a lot of people who use alcohol to relieve the stresses of college and that’s just not healthy long-term. Just be safe and know your limit.

 6. Ask for help

It’s okay to ask for help. Nobody is going to laugh at you for not knowing where something is or having trouble in your math course. There are so many resources just there to help the students. If your having trouble with something you can talk to your RA or your advisor.

I hope you all love ECU like I do. Congradulations Class of 2021!
