Michael B. Jordan is Making Us Relive 10th Grade English in HBO’s ‘Fahrenheit 451’ Trailer & We’re Not Even Mad About It

The first trailer for HBO’s Fahrenheit 451 has been released, teasing just enough to make us desperate for its premiere. It’s barely been two weeks since Michael B. Jordan’s outstanding performance as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, so we’re quite eager to see more of him on screen.

Jordan will be starring as Guy Montag, a fireman who lives in a world where being a fireman means burning books as a kind of coup against the media. Playing opposite Michael Shannon (Captain Beatty), Jordan’s character is the young protĂ©gé who questions the morality of book burning and seeks to regain humanity.

HBO’s Fahrenheit 451 is based off Ray Bradbury’s novel of the same name, originally published in 1953. The dystopian sci-fi book was titled after the temperature at which books burn, and provides a commentary on what it means to destroy media. As for why the film is being made now? Director Ramin Bahrani, who says he has always loved the novel, explains, “Two years ago, as I looked at the world around me, it seemed like the ideal time to do a modern interpretation.”

While the film hasn’t even premiered yet, many have speculated that its timeliness is due to President Trump. Bahrani has, however, countered that it shouldn’t be assumed to be about the presidency because it’s also about “the 30, 40 years prior to that.”

Regardless of Bahrani’s inspirations for creating this flick, we will be waiting to see how the film relates to our lives today. Fahrenheit 451 is slated for a May release on HBO.
