You know, it gets a bit tiring having to listen to multiple people, your age and older, ask the same questions: “Why aren’t you having fun? Why are you tied down at such a young age?”
…..Well, damn…my parents were together since they were in their teens….same with some aunts and uncles…I’m guessing they didn’t have fun being together all those years, eventually getting married and still kicking it and having fun…
First things first, I am having fun! And second, people can obviously have fun whether they’re in a relationship or not. Just because I’m committed to someone doesn’t mean that I’m having less fun.
I guess to the cousins or young aunts and uncles that question my choices, I really look like I am “throwing away” my youth. At the same time though, I’m not much of a going-out party person anyway. That’s not me. If you do like to party, then awesome! Have fun, party away, be safe! I’m not here to tear down anyone, but to assume and believe that that’s what I should be doing and liking is not cool. Also, even if I did like going out to the club, my relationship should not stop me. Either I’ll go out with my girls or I’ll go out with my boyfriend. I’m having a blast either way.
Now, I don’t want to blame the whole tinder era since people have been dating and meeting people for a long time already, but I do think apps like tinder may amplify hooking up once or a few times a bit more. I’m not even tearing that down; you do you. You have fun, but PLEASE be safe of course. However, I think that’s what many people in my family, and who I’m close with thinks that’s what I should be doing.
Personally, I think that you should support someone if they are in a healthy and happy relationship instead of pushing them towards the idea of being single. If I’m not telling you how to spend your time, then why should you tell me? Kindly back off and let everyone have fun. At the end of the day, someone else’s opinion of your relationship or how being single would be better shouldn’t be lingering in your head. Ignore them, laugh it off and go get dinner with your significant other and enjoy spending time with one another.
