Think that cocktails are only to be enjoyed in the summer in the beer garden of your local Wetherspoon’s? Think again! Winter cocktails are totally a thing. Whether or not you’re lucky enough to be hitting the slopes over the next month or two, these yummy drinks are bound to make you feel like putting on woolly socks in front of the fire…until the alcohol kicks in and you make a spontaneous decision to charge to TP, of course.
Snowball
Snowball cocktails are a firm favourite around Christmastime because of their creamy texture. But who says that all the yummy creamy stuff can only be served in December? If Exeter weather is anything to go by, then a cocktail called ‘Snowball’ is far more appropriate in February. This is a low maintenance cocktail too, one you make by just whacking all the ingredients in a glass and stirring.
- Advocaat
- Lemonade
- Lime juice
- An optional orange slice
Winter Margarita
BETTER than a regular margarita. And all because of one ingredient: egg. Sounds mad right? In fact, adding egg white to cocktails such as this one is never about taste. It’s all about texture. Egg white is colourless and tasteless so all it brings to the mix is a thickening effect!
- Tequila
- Lime juice
- Syrup
- Salt
- Egg white
Boozy Candy Cane Milkshake
I know right. This cocktail’s name is making my mouth water and I’m just writing about it. You’ll need to borrow your housemate’s blender for this one. Fans of the Instagrammable cocktail, rejoice! The pink and white will look great under any filter and the mix of ice cream and peppermint schnapps will keep you merry…
- Vanilla ice cream
- Peppermint schnapps
- Syrup
- Strawberry sauce
- Optional mini candy canes
Penicillin
Perfect for curing those pesky winter colds – or not. This cocktail gets its name from the medicinal qualities of its ingredients: ginger, honey and lemon. I reckon it’s medical properties get a bit skewed when you add the whisky though…
- Scotch whiskey
- Lemon juice
- Honey syrup
- Ginger syrup
