Getting Ready Made Easy with Daily Dress Me

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Everyone knows that one of the worst parts of waking up in the morning (besides the actual getting up part) is figuring out what to wear. As a college student, I run into the problem of having a full closet but nothing to wear on a daily basis. When I heard of Daily Dress Me, a site started by recent college grad Nina Vir, I was excited to find a potential solution to my wardrobe woes. I used DDM for a full school week to create practical and cute outfits.

Daily Dress Me Report: 63°F/37°F. Cloudy skies early, then partly cloudy after midnight. Low 47F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Since I didn’t have anything resembling the coat or shoes that DDM recommended, I opted for a grey zip-up and Birkenstocks. I also wore a black mock neck bodysuit and ripped light-wash jeans. I was a little chilly on my walk to class, but that’s my own fault. As a New Yorker going to school in New Orleans, I didn’t realize that the winter is still the winter and I would need to bring some warmer clothes.

Daily Dress Me Report: 53°F/39°F. Sunny. High 53F. Winds NNE at 10 to 20 mph.

Okay so clearly my outfit does not resemble DDM’s whatsoever. I wish I could rock a look like that, but it honestly just wasn’t my style and I really didn’t have anything in my closet that could recreate the outfit. Since I was running late anyway (as per usual), I threw on my go-to chilly day clothes: leggings, moccasins, and a sweater.

Daily Dress Me Report: 66°F/53°F. Sunshine and a few afternoon clouds. High 66F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.

While I didn’t go with the all-black theme, I was definitely inspired by today’s DDM outfit. As mentioned before, my wardrobe has a lack of jackets and coats, which are featured in most recommended outfits, so today I went for a flannel over a knitted tank top and leggings. And of course my moccasins for maximum coziness.

Daily Dress Me Report: 71°F/47°F. Cloudy skies. Slight chance of a rain shower. High 71F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Let me start off by saying that I could not tell you the last time I wore a skirt. I had my internship today, so when I saw DDM’s outfit I decided to go for it and try out a more ~professional~ look than what I’m used to. For my top, I chose a lightweight long-sleeved shirt as opposed to a sweater and jacket. Honestly, with the NOLA humidity, I probably would’ve been really uncomfortable if I had stuck to DDM’s outfit more closely and worn something heavier.

Daily Dress Me Report: 65°F/43°F. Considerable cloudiness. Lows overnight in the low 40s.

While I did not have any items in my closet that were similar to DDM’s outfit, I was inspired by the dark tones to break out my trusty black sweater dress. I also followed the metallic shoe trend and opted for rose gold sandals instead of DDM’s silver sneakers. Overall, I felt sophisticated and comfortable during the day which was perfect for a Friday spent at my internship.

THE VERDICT

Overall, I think Daily Dress Me is an awesome resource for anyone in any city with any kind of weather. While the sample outfits they gave me weren’t things I would typically wear, it was really easy to use their ideas as inspiration and choose pieces from my own closet to put together a practical and cute outfit. I will definitely use the site in the future on days when I feel like I can’t find anything to wear.
