Who says you can’t enjoy spending? Who thinks it wrong to help add to our economy by buying? Why can’t we just admit that sometimes impulsive buying is useful?
All those questions flutter my mind on the regular, mostly because I consider myself a shopaholic. I believe this because I am constantly drawn to spending money. To me, it feels like a wonderful life because I am receiving new items, new experiences, and always feeling satisfied after shopping. Yet, when it comes to making purchases I noticed that if you don’t have the money, the more trouble there is. I find that even though, the last four years in college, I have spent more money on pointless items and lots of other expenses that I don’t need. Which, it reminds me that I can’t keep stressing myself out and spending all this money. I mean it is hard for me not to buy at least one thing from a store, It is hard for me not to buy designer labels, I mean if the store is cute I always find myself heading that way! I also can’t help but find myself trying new restaurants through the city, where I’ll casually spend up to 15 dollars on a nice alcoholic beverage on top of my 20-dollar meal; mainly I do this just to get a cute Instagram picture.
Maybe, this is caused because I am addicted to a lifestyle that I can’t afford. So, I decided that I need to change my spending habits because like the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, it comes down to materialistic items aren’t going to love you back in the end. So, 2018 you are going to be the year that I get back in financial shape. It is the year where I focus on spending only on needs and not wants. A year filled with actual budgets that I follow because we need to trust that spending too much isn’t a healthy habit. Changing the shopaholic life can happen as long as I keep my head up by focusing on how every little bit I spend effects my future. Thank goodness I have support from the ones that matter the most because in the end, money isn’t going to buy my happiness, my family, and friends and I will be the successor to “purchasing” overall happiness.
