Let’s be honest, the last thing you want to do in college is your assignment. You’ll do ANYTHING to distract yourself from the everyday hustle and bustle of being a college student, and one of the best ways to do that is binge watching a TV show.
As a second semester freshman, I have definitely fell victim to binge watching shows. But the absolute best one by far is Bob’s Burgers.
Let me tell you something about Bob’s Burgers, it is arguably the best TV show currently on any television network. It has adult humor like the ever so casual sex joke, but it also has the beautiful (yet often disgusting) humor that appeals to a ten year old boy.
If you haven’t watched Bob’s Burgers before, its about a family called the Belchers running their burger restaurant. All of the family members have their own special quirks that make for some very entertaining situations and conversations.
Take for example, the matriarch of the family, Linda. Linda is your stereotypical crowd pleasing mom. She sings about everything she’s doing, always cheers on her kids, all while helping her husband run a restaurant. And come on we CANNOT forget about Tina. Tina is the definition of middle school girl going through the phases that we all went through. Her obsession with horses, devotion to reading and writing fan-fiction, and her overall fascination with boys was all of us in middle school. She may be incredibly awkward and her younger siblings have no idea what’s going on with her half the time, but oh boy do they look up to the ridiculous older sister.
Some of the best things about Bob’s Burgers is the constant parodies and random celebrity appearances. By far my favorite parody episode was one titled Work Hard or Die Trying Girl. While trying to compromise before both of their plays get canceled, Gene (the Belcher son) and his enemy/ex girlfriend try and find a way so that Genes musical adaptation of the cult classic Die Hard and Courtney’s musical adaptation of Working Girl can exist at the same time. Thus creating the amazing combination musical of the two movies combined Work Hard or Die Trying girl.
When it comes to celebrity appearances, the show hits this one right on the nail. In the most recent Christmas Special, The Bleakining, stars such as Adam Driver and Todrick Hall make appearances. Driver as a suspicious new man that attended the Belcher Christmas family that is a suspect for stealing the top of the family Christmas tree, and Hall as the oh so fabulous Christmas drag queen.
Do yourself a favor and watch this show. With its light hearted mood and amazing humor, it’ll easily wash all the worries of college life away.
