8 Ways to Look More Stylish in 2018

We’re only a few into the New Year and you have nothing to wear. Everything is old. Everything is “not in style” anymore. Or maybe you just want to update your look—even if the pieces aren’t necessarily already “out of style.” What do you do?

Lucky for you, Her Campus has the best eight ways to look more stylish this year.

1. Statement earrings

Oversized earrings make a statement without necessarily wearing bold colors or prints. The earrings speak for themselves. They can be a simple geometric, metallic design or a bright pattern, and add a stylish embellishment simply.

2. Statement shoes

Embellished shoes are the year’s newest fashion statement, with beads and glitter galore. These are definitely a great way to add a pizzazz to any look.

4. Dark denim

Take your light wash jeans and trade them for a more fashionable option. Dark denim jeans in a skinny cut can be dressed up or down; a t-shirt or a blazer both look nice with this statement piece.

5. Ultra violet

Ultra violet is the color of the year. It was chosen to evoke originality and thinking outside-of-the-box, Pantone Vice President Laurie Pressman told The Associated Press ahead of the announcement. The color can be used within accessories or even a shirt or sweater. Add ultra violet as a pop of color to your outfit. Since it’s a bold color, make sure to pair it with neutrals.

6. Mix prints

This can be one of the trickier fashion statements to conquer. But you can make it work! One hint to make this work is to mix prints of similar color tones, but if you want two intricate prints, like stripes and florals, try a more muted hue and a bright one.

7. Trench coats

In 2018, trench coats are getting a makeover. They are now embellished with feathers, ruffles, you name it. But even a sleek cut will look fashionable this year.

8. Scarves

Especially with all of the cold fronts currently hitting many parts of the country, scarves are a necessity this season. A scarf can be similar to the statement earrings; bold or subtle colors and patterns work. But they don’t have to be just for the winter either. Scarves can be the print, pattern, or pop of color any outfit needs.

Style is always changing but self-confidence is forever. Be you, be confident, and your outfit will rock no matter which trends you try in 2018.
