Last week, attorney general Jeff Sessions was questioned for several hours as part of a special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and obstruction of justice on the part of President Trump. This is the first time that the special counsel investigators have questioned a member of Trump’s cabinet, and it may imply that the investigation has reached advanced stages.
Of course, Trump has repeatedly denied any ties with Russia, and his lawyers have expressed their confidence that the investigation will end soon and Trump will be in the clear, according to NBC News.
Interviewing Sessions means they’re deep in the process. By getting questioned by Mueller’s team, Sessions now knows the areas the feds are probing in the case first hand. https://t.co/kHOUR4CY7N

Because of Sessions’ roles on Trump’s cabinet, as well as his role in the Trump campaign, it makes sense that he would be of interest in Mueller’s investigation. In March, Sessions faced great controversy when he reportedly lied under oath, stating that he did not have conversations with a Russian ambassador, despite claims from the Washington Post .
The content of Sessions’ interrogation last week is unknown, but it’s likely that it centered around his talks with Russia.
White House attorney Ty Cobb stated that “out of respect for the special and his process, and because of the privacy obligations we owe to potential or actual witnesses, the White House does not comment on witness appearances before the special counsel.”
