Last night’s Golden Globes featured a plethora of inspirational moments where the women of entertainment took the opportunity to speak out against sexual harassment and sexism in the industry, and Reese Witherspoon and Eva Longoria also used their voices to talk about the age-old pay gap—and we’re living for it.
During an interview with E!’s Ryan Seacrest, Longoria had some very powerful words to share, “We stand with you Catt!” she said. Entertainment Weekly explains that Witherspoon also nodded to show her support.

In case you don’t know, the “Catt” that Longoria mentions is none other than Catt Sadler, who left E! News after discovering her co-host made more than her (by a lot). We’re glad that Longoria and Witherspoon voiced their opinions about this important issue because equal pay doesn’t just affect Sadler. And nobody should have to quit their job because they aren’t receiving equal pay.
We aren’t the only ones moved by Longoria and Witherspoon’s comments. Sadler told People, “I am immensely grateful for the outpouring of support today. Thank you to Amy, Debra, Eva, Brie, Julianne and so many more women using their voices on behalf of us all. Time’s Up.”
Seeing as Longoria and Witherspoon took the opportunity to speak to a reporter from E!, it’s clear that the duo seized the moment to call E! News out for their wage discrepancies. Longoria continued her interview with Seacrest by stating, “We support gender parity and equal pay, and we hope E! stands with that.” Hopefully E! will address this issue by supporting equal pay for all its employees and co-hosts.
Witherspoon also explained to Access that she and Longoria helped ignite the Time’s Up initiative because, “We couldn’t be business as usual this award season. We have to speak up and say something.”
It’s evident that this duo’s activism has contributed to millions of donations for this organization. People explains that Time’s Up has been able to raise over $16 million to help individuals fight workplace harassment. We’re overjoyed to see celebrities like Longoria and Witherspoon work together to justify workplace injustices.
