Meet Jamie Lee, Director of Professional Development for the RBS club FORM, Marketing major and overall up-and-coming Rutgers Icon!
Â
What are 3 words people who know you would use to describe you?
Passionate, silly, and confident
Â
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
Trying new things, between eating/finding new food spots. Shopping, taking pictures for Instagram, music, adventures, and of course hanging out with my corgi, Chloe!
Â
How did you get involved in the Fashion and Social Media Industry?
I started out as a brand ambassador for VAYA and Sandcloud, but decided I wanted more involvement so I moved onto College Fashionista. At CF, I ended up being the Head Style Guru intern for Rutgers and then moved onto being one of their social media interns. I also participated in a virtual internship as a social media and brand partnership interest for The Style Almanac, which was a start-up online platform that aimed to provide students with fashion opportunities and resources. On campus, I joined TRIM Magazine and became their Social Media and Co-PR Director, allowing me to obtain social media and fashion experience!
Â
What did you do this past Summer/Fall?
This past summer I interned for a start-up digital lifestyle magazine called Mood of Living whose founder was the previous fashion and beauty editor of Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, and SELF magazines which was an amazing opportunity and also my first legitimate fashion experience. I was able to go to NYFW and New York Men’s Week, go to showrooms, and press events–it was literally a dream internship and since it was a start-up I got to work on all sides of the business. And this semester I am currently interning at NBC within the Digital Entertainment Department as a Social Media Intern for Late Night Platforms. I mainly work on curating and creating social content for Late Night with Seth Meyers, Saturday Night Live, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. NBC is also a dream and I’ve met some of the best people and learned so much from my experience here!
Â
What is your dream job?
My dream job originally was to work for a big publishing industry or magazine like Condé Nast and Vogue as either a Digital Marketing Director or as a Fashion Editor, however now I’m not so sure. After interning in the media industry this semester, I could go either route, but my absolute dream would be to work for a company that combines all of my business, fashion, and media interests!
Â
What is a typical day as an intern at NBC:
I can’t disclose too much information, but the day-to-day tasks change each week–every day I typically start by watching episodes from each show within Late Night and determine which content I think would be good for our social media accounts. I also curate and create GIF content and upload it, in addition to working on weekly analytic reports for each show’s performance. My biggest takeaway from working here is just really seeing how truly amazing the company is and how many accomplishments the organization has as a whole being the #1 network for 4 years running. Some other highlights were that I had the chance to shoot social content for the 85th Annual Rockefeller Tree Lighting right on the ice and saw The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon during my time here as well!
Â
How did you manage a full-time semester, internship, and your social life:
Honestly, I don’t know! I’ve always been the type to keep myself busy because I feel like I get the most out of everything that way, but time management is definitely the key component. This semester I had 2 internship positions (1 in person and 1 virtual), a campus ambassador position in addition to classes and 2 clubs with executive board positions. Even with all of that, I still made sure to make time for my friends and family! It’s all about prioritization and knowing your own schedule and your limits. Once you realize how you work, everything will fall into place J
Â
Best advice you’ve been given:
NEVER be afraid to ask questions, work hard, and be humble (reference from Cinderella). It’s always good to be curious and to learn more, but don’t forget to be kind to others while doing so!
