Surviving Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

Is it just me or do finals sneak up out of nowhere?  If you ask any of my friends, I am sure any one of them will tell you that I have been known to procrastinate here and there (probably more than I would be willing to admit), but I am sure I am not the only one.  Finals week is stressful, but it is important to take care of yourself.  Take enough time to study and review everything you need to, but also take enough time to eat well and get enough sleep.  Make a plan for yourself and include everything you need to do in order to have a successful week.  You know what is best for yourself.

Don’t get me wrong, finals are a big deal.  For many classes, they count for a large percentage of your grade and can be the difference between two grades.  If you are lucky, your exam will not be cumulative, but I know some of us don’t get that luxury in every class.  Look at all the material on your exam and figure out what you already know; only focus on what you don’t know and try your best to get it down.  Always take advantage of resources available to you on campus.  If your campus has a counseling center, that is always a great place to just go and talk to someone who is there to listen.  Ask friends for help who have already taken a class you are struggling in.  Utilize the resources provided to you by your professor (review sessions, office hours) and seek out tutoring opportunities.

Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in the craziness of finals week.  Don’t give up and try your best to power through the week.  Do not hold back.  Go into your exams with a positive attitude and knock them out of the park.  You got this.
