As we approach Finals Week yet again, it’s inevitable that there’ll be late night study sessions…or midday study sessions…or early morning study sessions. No matter what time it is when you’re cranking out those final papers or getting in some last minute cramming, you’ll need a place to get this work done. For me, the library’s one of the last places I want to be. So here are some other places on campus you can spend Finals Week 2k17.
- The Quiet Side of the Commons
- Whenever the Commons is open, the quiet side’s a great place to study. There’s plenty of open seating and it’s pretty isolated from the hustle and bustle of the loud side of the Commons. Grabbing coffee or a meal in between subjects is so convenient, and if you’re lucky, someone will stop by to play the piano that’s in there to set the ambiance and give you some study music.
- Saint Mary’s Lounge
- Saint Mary’s offers a cozy atmosphere if that’s what you’re looking for in a study space. Spread out on one of the couches in a space that stays relatively quiet and get that studying done!
- Empty classrooms in Franz, BC, or Shiley
- I feel like finding an empty classroom is one of UP’s best unkept secrets. They work great if you have to meet with a group and all the study rooms in the lib are booked! Bonus points if you’re brave enough to find an empty classroom in Romanaggi.
- Study rooms in the dorms
- If you want to be as cozy as possible when studying, there’s nothing better than working in the comfort of your own home. Maybe you get a little too distracted when you try to work in your actual room, so hitting up those study rooms that are down the hall or in the basement is a great way to find a conducive study space without going far.
- Coffee Shops Off-Campus
- Okay, this one is kind of cheating because it’s off campus but sometimes getting off campus to study is what you really need! There are plenty of coffee shops that are walking distance from campus too if you don’t have a car!
Good luck studying! We’re almost done!
