After this last week of finals, we’ll all be free! Before heading home to our own separate festivities, I decided to sit down and talk with friends about how they celebrate Christmas.
Q: What has been your most memorable Christmas?
Alvaro: When I was 13 years old and moved back to Ecuador. This was my first christmas spent with my dad’s side of the family. We did secret santa, danced, etc. So much fun.
Helen: …we don’t talk about that one….
Q: Favorite Festive Article of Clothing?
Alvaro: Sweaters – the whole family wears them
Helen: FESTIVE SOCKS
Q: Do you want it to be a “White Christmas”?
Alvaro: No, snow is not necessary to have a nice Christmas, it is very commercialized.
Helen: NO. I hate the cold, slipping on ice and being forced to wear snow boots all the time.
Q: What’s your favorite holiday beverage?
Alvaro: “Can it be alcoholic?” hahah…An Ecuadorian drink with Mint and coffee liqueur.
Helen: “Vanilla Chai from Dunkin Donuts… strictly from there.”
Q: Did you ever believe Santa was real? When did you find out that he isn’t?
Alvaro: Alvaro’s father told him at a young age between 4-5! But his father did tell him not to tell the other kids!
Helen: 11 years old, saw dad hiding the cookies that “Santa ate” within a newspaper.
Q: What does Noël mean?
Alvaro: No idea
Helen: Saint Nick
It means Christmas in French!
Q: Ice Skating or Snowboarding?
Alvaro: Snowboarding
Helen: Snowboarding
Q:Real tree or artificial?
Alvaro: Artificial, “90-95% of them are artificial in Ecuador… I keep talking in percentages”. (Life of an Econ student)
Helen: Artificial!
Q: How many points does a snowflake traditionally have?
Alvaro: Six
Helen: Five
Correct Answer is six!
Q: If you were Santa, what kind of cookies would you want to be left out for you?
Alvaro: Soft chocolate chip cookies *emphasis on the soft*
Helen: White chocolate macadamia nut cookies!
Q: Red and green are the two colors most associated with Christmas. Which are the two other colors, according to Christmas holiday trivia, that are also extremely popular in this season?
Alvaro: Blue and white
Helen: White and gold…Silver and White… I don’t know!
Answer: Gold and Silver
I hope everyone has a warm, heart filled holiday season!
