During a debate to legalize same-sex marriage in Australia, lawmaker Tim Wilson, seized the opportunity to propose to his SO, teacher Ryan Bolger. Because just when we thought we couldn’t be more thrilled about Australia finally legalizing same-sex marriage, Wilson proved us wrong (and we’re so glad he did —even if it does briefly distract us from the fact that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are getting married).
USA Today explains that the couple has been engaged for 9 years, but because the ban on same-sex marriage was only recently lifted on Nov. 15 they haven’t been able to officially get hitched.

According to The New York Times, Wilson ended his speech with his big proposal: “So there’s only one thing left to do. Ryan Patrick Bolger, will you marry me?”
Not only was Wilson able to contribute to this monumental movement in LGBTQ+ rights history, he was also able to capture this beautiful moment in his relationship (and share it with all of us).

Thankfully Bolger didn’t leave him on a cliffhanger, because you can clearly see him smile before he eagerly says yes. (Seriously, if your mascara isn’t running right now, are you even human?)
Now that Australia has voted in favor of marriage equality, Wilson and Bolger will finally be able to fulfill their nuptials. Plus, they have the ultimate love story to pass down to any and all of their children.
