After the semester that we’ve had so far, it’s super important to regain mental strength over Thanksgiving Break. After homework on homework and test on test, it can sometimes be hard to let your brain just stop worrying about what’s due and relax. Here are some tips on how to have your stress melt away so you’ll come back to school feeling rejuvenated.
- Take a bath
It’s time to take a trip to Lush and buy your favorite bath bomb. Especially if you live in a dorm and don’t have access to a bathtub, this is long overdue. Taking a bath helps relax not only your mind, but also your muscles. Depending on which type of bath bomb you get, it can help your skin feel great and leave you feeling amazing. Soak your body and feel your stress evaporate.
- Take some time to be alone
At school it is hard to be alone and doing something that you want to be doing instead of something you have to be doing. Yeah, we all watch Netflix, but at school you always have that assignment looming in the background. Take a few hours, be alone. Read a book for leisure instead of studying. Watch a movie. Go for a walk. Having some time to yourself when you aren’t on full force homework mode allows your mind to think about what is actually going on in your life and appreciate things more.
- Do some yoga
Stretching out your body does wonders. The relaxation that it provides as well as the quiet atmosphere gets your mind and body into relaxation mode. After doing some yoga your body will thank you!
- Cuddle with a pet
This one’s pretty obvious if you have pets. We all know seeing and cuddling our cats and dogs is the real reason we go home! There is legitimately evidence to support the fact that looking into puppy dog eyes relieves tension in our bodies, as well as theirs. So grab your pooch and get snugglin’!
- Connect with friends from home
Most of our friends from high school will be home over Thanksgiving break and it’s a great time to hang out and reconnect. To be able to let go of the stress of certain relationships at school and hang out with your friends that have known you for years can be very refreshing.
- Try making something creative
Letting go of the idea that “I’m not artistic” can do wonders for people’s stress. It can be very soothing to grab yourself an adult coloring book and just go to town. Don’t worry about making it a masterpiece, it’s not for anyone else. Going through the motions of coloring or making some sort of art project allows your mind to escape in a very meditative way.
After doing these things you will be ready to take on the next few weeks of the semester and survive finals!
