1. Go sledding down the Arboretum hill.
As a first-year student, I have yet to experience this event. However, our first-year survival guide included “sled” under items to bring, so I’m guessing it is taken pretty seriously here.
Â
2. Grab a seasonal beverage from Coffee Grounds or Ruane’s Den.
Whether it be a pumpkin spice latte, autumn spice latte, salted caramel latte, hot chocolate, or hot apple cider, these are must-have drinks to accompany intense study sessions.
Â
3. Take a scenic walk in the Arboretum.
The arboretum is beautiful throughout all seasons of the year. It won’t hurt to take a study break and get a little cool, fresh air to clear your mind.
Â
4. Head over to Dayton Arena.
Lace up your skates and start doing some figure eights, Camels! What most students don’t know is that there are open skate times throughout the week. If you do not already own a pair of skates, don’t fret, there are hockey and figure skate rentals readily available.
Â
5. Show your Camel spirit at Hockey Games.
Nothing beats cheering on Conn, listening to the sound of shredding ice, and the sensation of hot cocoa warming your taste buds. This winter sport is sure to leave you feeling chill (even though you are seated under heated lights), and also in the winter spirit.
Â
6. Temple Green Snow Angels!
You are never too old to make snow angels, and there is no better place to do them than Temple Green. Even better, if you’re feeling creative, maybe attempt to make a snow camel.
Â
7. Winter Movies
Spend a night in with your friends by having a winter-themed movie night. Pop some popcorn, grab some blankets, and gather in one of the common rooms for a comfy, seasonal event.
Â
8. Baking
Head over to a kitchen, grab some peers, and bake the afternoon away. Some great bakes may include, but are not limited to: gingerbread, pumpkin pie, apple pie, caramel brownies, and the classic sugar cookie decorated with colorful icing.
Â
9. Dorm DĂ©cor
Get into the winter spirit by decorating your dorm! Grab some paper and scissors, cut out some paper snowflakes, or just add strings of lights around your room.
Â
10. Listen to some seasonal music.
There is nothing like sitting back and listening to some good music. There are plenty of musical campus events during the wintertime. Attend a concert at Cummings Arts Center like the Jazz Holiday Concert, Orchestra Concert, or the Camel Heard and Chorale Concert. All these take place in December.Â
