Are you currently struggling with your workload? I am. I’m taking 16 credits, working 2-3 times a week, writing these articles, doing homework, and I barely have time to breathe. Maybe it’s the mid semester blues, but something inside me knows it’s really just too much going on for me. I piled too much onto myself and thought I could do it. Here’s how not to.
Don’t take too many credits, even if you think you can handle it. Something will always come up, and you won’t be able to handle the stress of 15+ credits. Just chill. College graduation is in the distant future, and the only time you should absolutely stress yourself out with classes is that last year. Take a break! Take 13 or 14, and enjoy the feeling of not having homework every single day.
Don’t take on too much responsibility. This means don’t become president of five different organizations, volunteer 20 hours a semester, and keep a job at the same time. Choose a couple things that keep your happy, and do those instead. If you want to save the world, you have to save yourself first, remember that.
If you have to cut hours back and work, do it, especially if you don’t need the money. This is probably the hardest to accomplish. Maybe you have to work all day on Saturday and Sunday, and not work during the week? Or sometimes you need a new job altogether. It’s hard, but it’s doable. I stopped working Tuesday nights, not because I didn’t have the time, but because they were keeping me too late and I have to wake up early on Wednesdays. My mental health is more important any day.
You don’t have to always hang out with your friends. You need to make time to do homework and all of your other responsibilities. This might be surprising, but partying is not a priority, and I see too many freshmen and sophomores that are too interested in doing just that. Take the time off from drinking and put your homework first! You’ll thank me after you get a good grade.
So don’t overload yourself this semester. Make the time for responsibilities, but don’t overload yourself with classes or activities.
