Maybe you’re like me: keenly aware of how early it gets dark nowadays, and finally wanting to take advantage the chilly weather now that midterm deadlines are slowly dying out. It’s the lead up to Christmas, sure, but we’ve still got leaves falling for another few weeks, and that means a little more time to enjoy the season before the holiday rush starts up in full. Take a look at some of my favourite ways to warm up and enjoy a proper cozy day in for the tail end of autumn!
1. Drinks
This is, without a doubt, the best part of a seasonal day in. And not at all difficult! You’ve got the works: hot chocolate, any number of tea flavours, coffee, malted drinks…. I don’t really think you can go wrong.
That being said, it could be fun to spice it up with something festive. You can get seasonal tea flavours in bigger supermarkets, and if you’re feeling like a treat, get yourself some christmasy fix-ins for a cup of coco. Honestly, all you need to do is head to Sainsbury’s and wander down the tea aisle – and not getting stuck deciding for ages!
2. Entertainment
Books, movies, tv shows, video games… These are a given for any day in. If not, what have you actually been doing?
I could go on for years with all the perfect bits and bobs of entertainment for enjoying the weather. The secret to a good day in is to shake it up a bit. Try something new! This is the perfect time to pick up that book you bought and forgot about, or to finally get started on that one show you’ve been putting off. You could even going to a whole new medium, like a podcast or niche webcomic.
Who knows, you might just find the perfect thing to get back to for your next day in!
3. People
Maybe it’s not the time or place to invite everyone and their uncle to your cozy chill sesh, but happiness never decreases by being shared. You could call up your partner and make it a date, invite some best buds over to watch a movie, skype your mom and dad, or even just pop over to your flatmates room to ask if they want a cup of tea.
The whole point of having a nice day in is that you have fun with it! If you’re an introvert, or just want some downtime, it’s of course fine to spend the day in your own room alone. But if you’re up for it, just being around other people and doing whatever is a good way to have some low-effort socialising.
4. Self care
If the aim of the game is pampering, make it fun! Paint your nails, break out the nice lotion, look up some yoga tutorials online.
But at the same time, if you’re wanting to feel refreshed and energetic the next day, you have to remember to balance a healthy mind. Even if it’s pulling open the curtains, walking round the block to get some air, or making sure you’re drinking enough water, do something you know you’ll thank yourself for later.
No matter what, days in are to chill – so curl up, grab a drink, and enjoy the season.
