HC: Bryson Tiller vs Daniel Caesar
JL: Daniel Caesar, I feel like Bryson Tiller is kind of played out.
HC: Football vs Basketball
JL: I like football season better because it is more exciting than basketball season.
HC: Biggest Fear?
JL: My biggest fear is drowning. I do not go past five feet whenever I am in a pool.
HC: Favorite Celebrity?
JL: My favorite celebrity is defiantly Rihanna I like her music a lot and I support how she is branching out into different fields for example, with her “Fenty Beauty” makeup line.
HC: How long have you been cheering for?
JL: I have been cheering since I was nine years old, it was something I started doing because of my best friend.
HC: Would you ever want to become a professional cheerleader, if so which team and why?
JL: I would never want to become a professional cheerleader. After college, I want to own my own cheer team back in Maryland.
HC: What emotions do you experience when someone says cheerleading isn’t a sport or isn’t complex?
JL: I get very upset because as a cheerleader we work out and put in countless hours just like any other sport. As a cheerleader, we actually throw humans in the air, we are not just throwing a ball around like other sports. We have injuries and concussions too, so when people say cheer is not a sport they are invalid.
HC: How do you balance school work, social life, and cheer practice?
JL: I have really good time management skills, so my off days are when I get most of my work done.
HC: If you could change anything about the United States, what would you change?
JL: I would direct more awareness to people with mental and physical issues because I believe that people who suffer from those illnesses do not receive the help they need.
HC: What lies do you always tell yourself?
JL: Whenever I go to take a nap I always say it’s going to be a 15 min nap, but then it turns into a 20 min nap/an hour nap.
HC: What single event has had the biggest impact on who you are today?
JL: When my parents got divorced I learned at a young age that everything is not peaches and cream. Furthermore, I learned that you have to bounce back from situations like you cannot dwell on your issues.
HC: What’s the most embarrassing thing you have ever done?
JL: Last year at a basketball game one of the opposing team’s players lost control and ended upcoming really close to my face and I then made a disgusted face. It was extremely embarrassing because the game was on TV so everyone saw and my parents recorded the moment and zoomed in on my face.
HC: What part of your culture are you least proud of?
JL: I do not like how as African Americans we like to group ourselves into different categories. It shouldn’t matter if you have natural hair or a weave or if you are light skin or dark skin. None of that should matter because at the end of the day we are all still Black.
HC: What is your favorite quote?
JL: “Its already yours”, that is my favorite quote because I like to tell myself that whatever goals I have are mine to achieve.
