The other day, I was sitting on my bed thinking about how lucky I am that I get to share a living space with one of my closest friends, but I was also thinking about how lucky I am to have my own dorm room. My first year of college I lived with a roommate, and I believe everyone needs to experience living with someone else in close quarters at least once. This will only help prepare you for a future of sharing an apartment or a house with someone else. Knowing how to be a good roommate and respectfully living amongst other people is a special life skill you can only attain by living with someone else. I will say though, that after giving it a try for your Freshman year it is up to you whether you want to look into having your own room or not.
A few quick positives of having your own room would be:
1. Having alone time if you need it
Â
2) Singing or dancing around your room without distracting anyoneÂ
Â
3) Bringing a significant, or a not so significant other over without having to ask your roommate to leave their room
4) Not having to wear headphones 24/7
5) Having your own space to do whatever you want with it!
If you’re the kind of person that prioritizes these types of luxuries, then it may not be a bad idea to think about spending a little extra money to have your own room!
