To the New Taylor Swift

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marywood chapter.

To the New Taylor Swift,

I can still remember being in seventh grade being ecstatic listening to Kellie Pickler, waiting for you to make your grand entrance singing one of my favorite songs. Ever since then, I have been in attendance at every tour you have had and I can easily say growing up you were one of my role models.

I look back to that Taylor Swift. The one who would not show her belly button when she dressed and made that known. The one who would whip her hair around. The one who had beautiful curls that I tried to mimic, teaching myself hair tricks in the process. Where did that person go?

Your answer- she’s dead. Children today will never know that Taylor Swift. They will know a girl that changed into a pop star. A singer that just sings and dances provocatively. They won’t know your full talent. They will never know your true voice, the songs you wrote, and all the different instruments you know how to play. Why, because you changed your entire music and brand.

One of your most famous lines, “Your lucky enough to be different, never change”. What happened to that? It seems today you are trying to distance yourself as far as you can from the singer at Blue Café that gained so many fans who loved that you.

You have changed your music to be more about promiscuity, beats, and a robotic voice. That is not the Taylor I knew and fell in love with. That Taylor would never dress up in a body suit that makes her look naked.

“I’ve found that growing up can mean a lot of things. For me, it doesn’t mean I should become somebody completely new and stop loving the things I used to love.” If this is what you meant, then why did you go against everything you stood for?

Sincerely,

An old Taylor Swift Fan
