The past few years have reintroduced some of the most beloved television shows as the reboots of certain shows have allowed us to catch up with our favorite characters and see where their lives have gone since the series finales of each show. In some cases, the reboots are an extension of a popular show with the same characters, while other reboots bring new characters into the mix considering so much time has gone by. While there are countless reboots on the air and streaming services like Netflix right now, here are five of reboots that have brought nostalgia to fans everywhere.
Gilmore GirlsÂ
Originally airing from 2000 to 2007, Gilmore Girls followed Lorelai and Rory Gilmore through their lives in Stars Hollow with everything from high school drama, to romances, to family troubles proving to have something for everyone in a wide range of ages. Although the series ended in 2007, Netflix has allowed people who were too young to watch or merely missed out on the show the first time around to binge all seven seasons and eventually catch up with Lorelai and Rory in present times with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. This reboot was one of the most anticipated shows of 2016 because people who had waited week after week to see Lorelai and Rory’s adventures could unite with those who had binged all seven seasons in one week to see where Rory’s writing career had gone and how Lorelai’s relationships with her family and Luke had shifted over time.
Will and Grace
Will and Grace is a classic example of a reboot because they pick up where they left off with Season 9 after running 8 seasons from 1998 to 2006. The new season, which just began airing on September 28, 2017, follows the same characters eleven years after the last time we saw them again allowing the die hard fans from the original series run to reunite with their favorite characters, while also introducing an adored show to a new generation.
Girl Meets World
As a 90s Friday night favorite, Boy Meets World followed Cory Matthews from middle school through college as he navigated his world with his best friend, Shawn, and girlfriend, Topanga. Girl Meets World differs from the typically reboot because it follows Cory’s daughter, Riley, and her friends through middle school with Cory as their teacher. While the show may not be a literal extension of Boy Meets World, it’s focus on Riley and her friends allows a new generation of children and tweens to enjoy the adventures of someone in the Matthews family, while original fans of the show, who may be parents themselves now, can see how Cory and Topanga are doing.
Full House
Full House is one of the most iconic shows from the 80s into the 90s and is still played regularly on Nickelodeon allowing those of us who weren’t alive during its original run to get to know the characters. Because of how memorable this show is, it is a no brainer that it got a reboot on Netflix called Fuller House. Like Girl Meets World, this series follows favorite characters who were kids in the 90s throughout their grownup lives as they juggle new responsibilities like jobs and children. Fuller House even takes a few notes from Full House as it as D.J., Stephanie, and Kimmy all living in one house caring for their children like Danny, Joey, and Jesse did during the girls’ childhoods.
Teen Wolf
While the previous four reboots have been based off of a TV show and follow the same characters, Teen Wolf has its origins in the 1985 movie of the same name. While the movie follows a teen wolf basketball player named Scott, the TV show follows a teen wolf lacrosse player also named Scott. However, in the movie, Scott becomes a werewolf on the basketball court and doesn’t seem to mind, while TV show Scott doesn’t show that he is a werewolf to everyone. Although the TV show is not a direct descendant of the movie, it attracted fans of the movie who were interested to see how the writers would incorporate the old Teen Wolf with the new as well as viewers who had never seen the movie.Â
