One of the many great things about Georgia Southern is the diversity here. There are so many different types of people and with a student body of over 20,000 there’s always someone new to meet. This week I’m going to introduce you to Orwyn Allicock.
.
Orwyn is a 19 year old sophomore, premed-biology/psychology major from Atlanta, Georgia. When asked how he ended up at Southern, he told a story about how when he was 4 he and his best friend said they would go to college together. When the time came they both were accepted into Georgia Southern, but at the last minute his best friend pulled out and decided to go to UGA while he stayed here at Southern.
Outside of classes, Orwyn is heavily involved on campus. He is a model for Visage Fashion Company and a member of the Black Student Alliance. He is also an executive member of another organization that is not yet part of Georgia Southern’s roster, Grace Networking Agency, a professional and social artistic outreach program to assist building the brand of students here at Georgia Southern.

In addition to his organizations, Orwyn (aka DJ Wavey) is also a well-known DJ/radio host on campus. He’s been djing since the age of 13 and recently started his own podcast here on campus. He began with a radio show by himself but after some censorship issues he learned that doing a podcast would give him more freedom and he also allowed him to bring on his two best friends and MCs, Demba Ly and Leon Bowles. Orwyn defines The Wavey Hour (the podcast) as a non-conformist radio show that allows him and his cohost to be informative and have an open dialogue about any topic without resctriction. You can catch The Wavey Hour on 91.9 “The Buzz” every Thursday from 7-9 pm.
