Homecoming Court Candidacy: Miss. Georgia State University

What or who encouraged you to run for homecoming court?

It’s not just one person or one thing that encouraged me to run for Miss. Georgia State University. Many of my closest friends suggested that I should run for court. At first I brushed them off, trying to explain that I didn’t think that I would be the best candidate, but as more and more people began to suggest it, that’s when I knew that I should pursue becoming Miss. Georgia State University.

Why this particular title, what makes it special?

Miss. Georgia State University is special to me because it is a representation of everything that I have worked towards through my college career. This title is not something that is just given to you, but must be worked for, and through hard work anything can be accomplished. Through this title I will be able to take my platform and touch the lives of so many more people while bridging the gap between different communities.

On this potential platform (alongside the others you may hold) what do you want to address or bring more attention to?

One thing that I would like to bring more attention to on my platform is how inclusive Georgia State University is. Over the past 4 years GSU has increased the student body making it more diverse, built new dorms while taking a stance on transgender restrooms and dormitories and purchased a new stadium to capitalize on the growth of the city of Atlanta. People who don’t attend GSU don’t understand GSU, and I want those people to know, and the surrounding community to know, what it means to be a panther and how great GSU really is.

What is something that you want the student body at GSU to know about you?

One thing that I would want the student body to know about me is that I am truly dedicated to being my own person and impacting others without conforming to how society thinks I should be.

What impact do you want to leave at Georgia State University?

When I become an alumna I want to leave a strong sense of community and fellowship at Georgia State University. Through the title of Miss. Georgia State University, I would like bring the GSU campus together on more occasions outside of just Homecoming. As a university we are constantly evolving and building new traditions which continue to enhance the culture of Georgia State University. By continuing to cultivate and instill Panther Pride into each student, GSU will continue trail blaze as the best university in Georgia.
