Songs That Topped the Charts 10 Years Ago

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

What I would have done to be a college student in this era of music. Only one word can describe these songs: iconic.

“Umbrella” by Rihanna ft. Jay-Z

“Umbrella” dropped in March of 2007, and our lives have never been the same.

“Irreplaceable” by BeyoncĂ©

EVERYTHING YOU OWN IN THE BOX TO THE LEFT.

“Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” by T-Pain

2007 was T-Pain’s world, and we were all just living in it.

“Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood

You can say you hate country music, but when this song comes on I better see you with your cowboy hat on.

“Fergalicious” by Fergie ft will.i.am

This Black Eyed Peas reunion was impossible NOT to sing along to.

“Crank That (Soulja Boy)” by Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em

Where would songs like “Stanky Legg,” “Teach Me How to Dougie,” and “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” be if “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” had not come along first?

“How to Save a Life” by The Fray

*Insert tears here*

“Teardrops on My Guitar” by Taylor Swift

Oh how times have changed.

“Thnks for th Mmrs” by Fall Out Boy

S/O to this song for making us feel ~edgy~.

“SexyBack” by Justin Timberlake

Okay my man JT had SEVERAL songs that could have made this list, but I decided to go with the most iconic.

“Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne

Avril reemerged with “Girlfriend” in 2007 after her last huge single “Sk8er Boi” (2002).

“Waiting On the World to Change” by John Mayer

John Mayer gave us smooth vocals (when does he not?) and a song with deeper meaning in 2007.

“Like A Boy” by Ciara

This is a female anthem that should never be forgotten.

“Makes Me Wonder” by Maroon 5

Maroon 5 continues to crank out hits, and was doing so all the way back in 2007 (and before), too.

“Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s

This song is STILL cute as hell.

“Lip Gloss” by Lil Mama

Did this song cause lip gloss to come back in style? I vote yes.

“No One” by Alicia Keys

Don’t tell me you haven’t screamed this alone in your car.

“Over You” by Daughtry

So all of their songs sound the same, but WHAT HAPPENED TO DAUGHTRY?

“Apologize” by Timbaland ft. OneRepublic

I was certainly unaware in 2007 that this song was Timbaland’s doing, but I thank him all the same.

“Low” by Flo Rida ft. T-Pain

Did you ever go to a middle school dance where this WASN’T played?

Conclusion: 2007 was a trendsetting year for music and most certainly feels like it was yesterday, not ten years ago.
