7 Cute Fall Outfits to Wear When It’s Still Warm Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Now that it is officially fall, it’s time to break out warm sweaters, scarves and grande pumpkin spice lattes, right? Well… not exactly. Even though the calendars say it’s fall, mother nature happens to disagree—recent temperatures have been lingering around 80 degrees! While we all love summer, we also love refilling our closets with our favorite fall outfits. Just because the weather has gotten slightly unbearable, it doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on cute fall clothes—pulling off the perfect fall fashion trends is always a possibility. Here are some tips on maintaining Instagram-worthy looks while also comfortably adapting to the weather of the fall:

1. Black Tights with Shorts

Shorts are a go-to on any hot day, but when paired with tights, it gives that layered feel without having to feel warm. You can easily mimic layers without having to actually wear an unbearable amount of clothes. It transforms the shorts look, which is typically associated with summer, into a fall fashion statement.

2. Flannels

The flannel is always a fall staple; and luckily, it comes in both thick and thin materials. Put on a thin flannel filled with fall colors on a hot day, and no one will even know the difference—you’ll be good to go! The best way to wear it is to wrap it around your waist or to leave it unbuttoned.

3. Swing Dress

Wearing a dress is most likely the best choice for anyone who is too lazy to wake up early. A swing dress is light, moveable and flowy. You can also find dresses that incorporate other trends such as bell sleeves and ruffles, too! Throw this on with a few other fall accessories, like a bronze necklace, and you’re ready for the day.

4. Skirts (Leather, Corduroy and Suede)

Skirts—specifically those made of leather, corduroy and suede—are perfect statement pieces for any fall outfit. The material is heavier, but you’ll still get to show off your legs. It can be paired with either short or long sleeve tops. Plus, it creates a sophisticated style even though it’s easy to throw on.

5. Overalls (Shorts and Dresses)

Overalls speak to the rustic feel of fall. Opt out of the overall pants and switch to an overall dress or shorts on a hot day.You can even play around with different colors, materials and types of denim!

6. Floppy Hats

Floppy hats are a great, easy accessory. What makes this ideal for a hot day? A big floppy hat can shield you from the sun! The sun can still be strong even though it’s no longer summer—better to keep it cool and protected yourself with a cute hat.

7. Ankle Boots

Ankle boots, aka. booties, can go with any outfit that you’re wearing, whether it be a skirt, dress, pants or shorts. A pair of low-cut ankle boots with the quintessential fall colors is an excellent way to stay in trend while combating the temperature. Beware, though: even though they’re boots, their main purpose is to keep you looking fashion-forward, not warm.

With these outfit ideas, you won’t have to compromise your fall aesthetic. Not only do these outfits encompass both new and traditional trends, they also allow for easy transitions and versatility this time of the year, when the weather is inconsistent. So, just because the weather has been warmer, doesn’t mean you have to give up wearing fall clothes—just wear lighter materials and fewer layers.
