Personally, I don’t think it can come soon enough. Fall break at Vandy is always a much needed reprieve from the monotony that can become life as a college student. It can be hard, however, to decide what exactly to do with 4 days on no class/responsibilities. To help you narrow down your choices, here are 5 places you can go this fall break.

New York City
For those who are willing to spend the money on a plane ticket/hotel in this pricey city, this is the first suggestion I have. New York is the perfect city to spend 4 days in. You can shop, see a musical, eat some yummy food, see some cool sights, or do whatever your heart desires. New York truly has it all, and 4 days is just enough time to be renewed by the energy of the city.

Any beach at all
On kind of the opposite end of the spectrum, this could be your last chance to be at a beach before fall really takes over. Go soak up the sun and play in the water while you can. And it doesn’t have to be a big haul either. I suggest finding a friend who lives near a beach, road tripping with as large of a group as can comfortably fit, and finding a cheap beach not too far away. Make it as easy as possible.

Gatlinburg
If you’re looking to just escape Nashville for a little bit, Gatlinburg is perfect. It’s not incredibly far away (only a 4 hour drive), and they have relatively cheap lodging. This mountain town offers trails and parks, and for those 21+, breweries and distilleries that sell authentic and legal moonshine. Over, it is a super cute and quaint place to visit for a longer long weekend.

Old Hickory Lake
Now admittedly, Old Hickory lake is very close to Nashville. You wouldn’t be going too far. But going down to Old Hickory for even a day could be a relaxing adventure. Rent a house with some friends and just swim and tube. You could even grill a fancy dinner or roast marshmallows. There’s something so relaxing about lakes, making them the perfect quick get away over Fall Break.

Home
Come on guys, you know your family misses you. For first years, this could be a nice opportunity to return home for the first time since coming to college. But even for older students, it’s nice to spend some time home again. You can catch up with family, sleep in a big bed, and maybe check out some other things from home you miss (for me, that’s Whataburger). As we get older, the amount of time we get to spend at home is ticking, so taking those four days to return to your roots can be the perfect thing to get you ready to conquer the rest of the semester (or at least until Thanksgiving).
