Is anyone else confused about what to wear when we’re in between seasons?
Well, now that it’s officially fall, but still eighty degrees out, I come to you with an affordable solution: the capsule wardrobe.
First of all, what is a capsule wardrobe anyway? I did the research (I mean, Google search):
In other words, a capsule wardrobe is probably smaller than most of our usual fashion collections; the idea is to be a bit more minimalistic. Having less options may seem daunting at first. However, it can save you money, minimize your “I tried this on and don’t like it and have nothing to wear pile(s),” and can be satisfying. By satisfying, I mean a few things. Firstly, having less clothing means that we are contributing less to consumer-driven, money-making companies. A capsule wardrobe is aesthetically-pleasing too; depending on the way you display it, you can have a piece of art in your space. It’s also kind of relaxing to know that you don’t have a ton of clutter in your closet because clutter can increase your stress levels.
Okay, so onto the clothes! As I mentioned, the weather here at Siena has been slightly unpredictable the past couple of weeks. So, I’m aiming for a Summer-to-Fall Transitional Capsule Wardrobe, that pairs trends with basics. Here are some ideas:
The Jumpsuit
The jumpsuit is versatile. You can dress it up or down and can pair it with endless jackets, jewelry, and shoe options to create your favorite look.
Maxi Dresses
The maxi dress is a transitional staple, in the sense that it’s light enough for those hot days, and warm enough for when the autumn weather starts rolling in. This affordable one from Forever 21 strikes the perfect balance. You can even throw in some fall trends, like stripes or a fun sleeve to mix it up!
Jeans
A couple of good pairs of jeans are a must-have basic item that will carry you through year-round and will work well during this period of seasonal confusion.
Sweaters, oh how I love sweaters….
A good sweater is an essential for your fall wardrobe and can be worn on those chillier nights (perhaps when you’re hanging out by the bonfire outside Casey’s or are making a late-night run to the library’s new café). Sweaters are also super comfy and versatile! You can wear them to class, or even to work on more casual days.
Shoes

Until it gets cooler, I plan on sticking to my sandals and sneakers. But when the actual fall weather rolls in, I will be on the lookout for some cute booties that incorporate fringy, fall elements and warm tones.
Ultimately, building your capsule wardrobe allows you the freedom to incorporate better quality items into your outfits and to really express yourself through mixing and matching those clothes. At the end of the day, it’s all about owning your style and finding clothes that make you feel comfortable and true to yourself!
