Where Are They Now: Katie Javaruski

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Endicott chapter.

Where do you work now?

Fidelity Investments

When did you graduate?

 May 2017

Were you involved in any clubs or organizations in college?

Collegiate Women’s Tennis, DECA, Women in LEADership (Formally known as Women in Business), Certified Peer Tutor Program & Gull Revolution

What was your best/favorite internship you had? Why?

My favorite internship was hands down my senior year internship, which I completed at my current place of work, Fidelity Investments. At Fidelity I assumed the same responsibility as a full-time associate and was held to the same expectations. Not only did I realize how much I loved working for a large organization, but I gained incredible technical and soft skills for the work place. The internship taught me that I valued working on a team, and that what matters to me most is working with incredible people. But I never forgot how important it was for me to have a horrible internship experience the year prior. Sometimes those experiences can teach you much more than the positive ones!

How did you find your current job? What process did you have to go through to get that job?

My current job was an offer from my last internship site. However, I did not receive the offer immediately upon completion of the internship. Since Fidelity is such a large organization as I previously mentioned, a manager needs to take many steps to build a business case to be able to hire another analyst. When the team finally got approved for another new hire, my connections at Fidelity helped me close the deal. The morning the application was posted, a good friend on my old team reached out to let me know so that I wouldn’t miss out on returning to such a great organization. Making a great impression with anyone you work with is essential, you never know when it might come in handy!

What is one tip you would give to college students going into their first interview.

Prepare beyond belief! Anyone who is interviewing you has probably seen fifty students with comparable resumes. Make sure that you do your research and be ready to impress the interviewers. Put something on your resume that would make you stand out, even if it doesn’t seem totally related. After adding, “Certified Archery Instructor” to my largely finance-based resume, I definitely made hiring managers look twice!

If you could tell your college self-one thing, what would that be?

Relax! I was always very high-strung in college, especially when it came time to finding a job. It’ll all work out in the end, and if it doesn’t work out, it wasn’t meant to be!
