Top 6 Fall 2017 Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

It’s finally fall – the best time of the year! The days are warm and the nights are cooler, the leaves are changing and the best fall flavors are finally here. With fall, of course comes the best season for fashion. Here are the top fall trends you’re bound to see in these upcoming months!

First and foremost, here is the color pallet of fall 2017, according to the Pantone Trends: Marina, Navy Peony, Shaded Spruce, Golden Lime, Neutral Gray, Ballet Slipper (my personal favorite), Butterum, Autumn Maple, Grenadine, and Tawny Port (which would make an AMAZING lip color).

And for the trends…

1. Jean EVERYTHING.

As the 80’s and 90’s fashion continues to take over this generation, jean of course is making it’s debut. While jean shirts have been trending for a while, this fall you’re bound to see huge jean jackets becoming a staple. Pairing jean shirts with jean pants is huge, and I’ve even seen a few pairs of jean sneakers at TJ Maxx lately. You can also throw a pair of tights or stockings under that button up jean skirt you’ve been rocking all summer.

2. Slip-On Sneakers/Loafers.

My favorite shoes this fall have been my plain black slip-on sneakers. They go with everything, you have no laces to worry about, and they’re so comfortable for walking around campus or even for going out. You don’t have to worry about drinks getting spilled on these or mud from any darties ruining your shoes since you can wipe them clean or throw them in the wash, unlike sandals or heels. Grey and rose colored ones have been all the rave lately; pick up a pair and I promise you will not regret it.

3. Intricate Sweaters.

Off the shoulder, lace cutouts, lace-lined bottoms, tie-up, ribbons in the sleeves – you name it, people will be rocking it as the days get cooler this year. I personally love the open chest but top seam still intact around the neck. You seriously can’t beat big, oversized sweater season.

4. Trouser Pants + Shorts.

You know the ones… the black or navy and white striped pants and shorts with the cute little tie belt? And the stripes are bold and vertical, making you look thinner and taller (bless). These are absolutely a bold style move you’ve got to try this year.

5. Embroidered EVERYTHING.

The black tops with roses embroidered, sweatshirts and jeans with different floral patterns embroidered, and SHOES. I’ve been dying at the floral embroidered booties and the Steve Madden heels lately. This trend is so cute and a perfect way to take a little bit of summer with you into these colder months.

6. COFFEE.

You think we could do a fall article without mentioning coffee? Dunkin’s pumpkin is officially back in both regular and cold brew, as well as Maple Pecan which is to die for. If you’re lucky enough to have an Aroma Joe’s nearby, they’ve got a white pumpkin latte and a dark chocolate spiced chai. Starbucks of course has the classic pumpkin spice latte as well as a salted caramel mocha and a pumpkin spice chai latte.

It’s going to be a beautiful fall folks!
