On August 25, 2017, a category 3 hurricane pounded the state of Texas causing over 8 billion dollars in damage. Thousands of people and pets became stranded in the rising waters. The death toll has risen to 60 and it may increase. Fear not, there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel.
People across the country and around the world are banding together to send supplies, food, and first aid to the Harvey victims.Â
On August 28th, the Houston Cougars head coach Kelvin Sampson tweeted out responding to many people asking what they could do to help. He answered asking for only two things: 20 of your school’s t-shirts and 10 pairs of shoes. There was an outpouring of responses, and one of those was local to the Rock Hill, SC area.Â
The Winthrop University Men’s Basketball twitter page replied only hours later promising a shipment would be on its way and added the circulating hashtag #houstonstrong to end of the tweet. The response has gotten 45 retweets and 141 likes as of September 4, 2017.
