Events in San Francisco are always innovative and modern and that was completely true about Brainfood SF, hosted by Spoon University, on Saturday July 22nd. Â The event combines food, science, and technology by embracing new ideas and creating a platform to talk about how science and food is evolving.
Here are some of my favorites features:
Hestan Cue - Smart cooking:
This was a hi-tech pan and cooking unit that utilizes internal heating, bluetooth technologies, and modern day
communications. The pan and the cooking unit connect through bluetooth and can perfectly cook your meals for you.  The app contains endless recipes with instructional videos and even then when cooking it will send your phone a message when it’s done or time to do something!  Even without the pan and cooking unit the Hestan Cue app has tons of recipes and videos to help you become a better cook!
Sally the Salad Robot:
Completely customizable tabletop robot that allows you to pick among listed ingredients for a fresh salad in minutes.   Sally’s main purpose is to be put into restaurants to help manage and make salads.  The idea is that Sally will have different models that can hold higher numbers of ingredients and possibly begin to make foods other than salads.

The Nima Sensor:
By far my favorite piece of the entire event. The Nima Sensor. Â This is a palm-sized triangular device that tests for gluten in your food in just minutes. Â Other models that are currently being worked on are for pine and tree nuts and eventually one that tests for dairy. Â This is something I could see many people having in the not so far off future. Other honorable mentions:
Soylent – Ready-to-Drink-Meal
Nomiku – Immersion Circulator (Cooker)
Chameleon Coffee
Liquid I.V.

Hearing from talented chefs such as Richard Blais and Melissa King about their perspective on the evolving culinary world initiated a conversation for food lovers and professionals to get excited and involved in. Brainfood SF was an event i’d recommend to any food lover or friend just for a fun day out and I can’t wait to see if it is back in San Francisco next year!
Until later lovelies,
