For those of you who know me personally, you would know that I reference songs…a lot. There is never a time when I will not reference a song because many of the songs I listen to remind me of the things that go on in my daily life. To give you an idea of what my life playlist looks like, I have compiled a list of songs that vaguely describe my life. Keep in mind that there are several others that I could add to this list, but they would only be relevant to specific experiences.

1. “Bounce Back” ~ Big Sean

“Last night took an L, but tonight I bounce back.” This line is pretty much the story of my life after a party weekend. Sometimes when I go out, I don’t have the best time. However, the night after, I have a great night out…guess you could say I bounced back.

2. “Don’t Stop Believin’” ~ Journey

I love classic rock songs that I can sing out loud when I’m with my friends. This song is extremely inspirational to me because whenever I am in a pessimistic mood, this song always reminds me to stay positive.

3. “Sunday Morning” ~ Maroon 5

First of all, this song is an inside joke about my life (it’s super secret as to what the joke is) and it is also my favorite song of all time. It is actually my alarm for every Sunday morning. My friends always make fun of me for singing and dancing to this song.

4. “Formation” ~ Beyonce

Everyone knows I am a huge Beyonce fan and that I love this song. Whenever all of my gal pals are on our way to dinner, I always say, “Okay, ladies now let’s get in formation.” Also given my love of spicy food, I usually say “got hot sauce in my bag, swag.” Not a day goes by that I don’t reference this song.

5. “Shake It Out” ~ Florence and the Machine

Whenever I am having a rough day, I always listen to this song to remind me to forget about the bad things in my life and focus on the good.

6. “Roman Holiday” ~ Halsey

I listen to this song whenever I feel the need to escape my stresses and hang out with my friends. My friends always distract me from my stressors and this song symbolizes that relationship I have with them.

7. “Unwritten” ~ Natasha Bedingfield

Like every other pre-teen, this song was (and still is) my ultimate jam. I love not caring about what others think of me and just living my life to the fullest and not conforming to people’s expectations for me. I love having a sense of individuality, even if it means me randomly serenading someone with this song and making a complete fool of myself.

8. “Kill Em with Kindness” ~ Selena Gomez

Over the course of my life, I have gone through many friends. Some of them have been great, others have been very two-faced and rude, towards me and my other friends. One of the most important lessons I learned was to indeed, “kill them with kindness.” It is a philosophy that usually works for me and definitely avoids any chances of drama.

9. “Umbrella/Singing in the Rain (mashup)” ~ Cast of Glee

Being from Seattle means that I’m surrounded by rain for 75% of the time, so whenever I hear this wonderful mashup, not only do I jam out, I think of home and remember how much I love the rainy weather. Plus, I love Glee.

I highly encourage everyone to have a playlist filled with songs that define their life. Not only is it funny and memorable, but it is also extremely therapeutic. Whenever I am stressed or anxious I listen to these songs to remind me of times where I would be happy.
