22 Things You Know When Your Parent is a Police Officer

1. Gun are a normal household item for you at this point. You have learned the in’s and outs’ of gun safety and might have even gone to a gun range or two.

2. Your police parent has used their role as a police officer to serve their community in an even bigger way like giving children a Christmas experience every year who otherwise would not have a chance to celebrate Christmas or raising money and awareness for the Special Olympics.

3. You have been behind a cop car many of times without actually getting arrested or charged for anything. You have even have sat shot gun from time to time.

4. Blue is your favorite color.

5. Your police parent has participated in the Police Olympics.

6. As a child, you were excited to be picked up from school by your police parent while they are in uniform. It was even more exciting when they picked in their squad car.

7. Your police parent has met some really cool peeps.

8. Your police parent has thrown you behind bars before as a life lesson.

9. Your family friends consist of other officers, lawyers, judges, DA’s, and basically anyone who is involved with law enforcement.

10. You have heard this line many of times: “Wow, your parent is in law enforcement! I bet you cannot get away with anything.” My response: not true, actually my dad is the lenient parent.

11. Your police parent has missed many birthdays, holidays, sporting events, school plays, etc.

12. You are beyond proud of your police parent.

13. Your police parent is your hero.

14. You love your police parent more than anything.

15. You hope to be as selfless as your police parent.

16. You pray daily for your police parent to make it home from their shift every time they leave the house.

17. You have lost a family member or family friend in the line of duty.

18. You have almost lost or even have lost your police parent in the line of duty.

20. Your police parent suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This not only affects your police parent but you and the rest of your family.

21. You understand that there are bad apples in the bunch, but that does not account for everyone.
