Starbucks is opening its first mobile-order-and-pay store in the Seattle headquarters building next week, New York Post reports. The franchise is hoping to find new ways to improve its mobile ordering process, which was first introduced in 2015, according to Tech Crunch.
The Starbucks’ headquarters currently has only two cafes for the over 5000 company employees who work at that office. Employees’ mobile orders will now instead be directed to the new store. It’s not totally virtual though—customers can still pick up their drinks and watch their orders being made through a large window in the store, New York Post reports.
In 2015, Starbucks introduced an order ahead and pick-up option to its app and it’s been a hit ever since. Users can browse the menu, choose a location, pay in advance and receive an estimated pick-up time.
Unfortunately, customers in more popular locations across the U.S. have had to endure longer virtual waiting lines. This move to test out a more mobile-friendly ordering design will hopefully fix some of these problems, Tech Crunch reports.
Although this mobile-only store only serves their Seattle headquarters, if the design works, it’s likely these most convenient online-ordering stores will open up in other locations across the U.S. Here’s hoping!
