Nothing Intimidating to Lingerie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

When people hear the word “lingerie,” they usually imagine a sexy, slim, beautiful model. Many people think of lingerie as a taboo sex thing, and may often shy away from it. However, other women claim that lingerie is a powerful article of clothing that can make you feel strong, confident and sexy.

“[I was] maybe a little bit I was scared [to try on lingerie], but I feel like maybe lingerie is sometimes like a taboo subject,” said Kimberly*, 21. “You know it’s just not a typical topic that people talk about but so yeah I was a little nervous.”

Because many people may feel like lingerie is an off-topic subject, it is often shied away from and kind of a scary thing to try on, or even an intimidating section to walk through in the store.

“I was always interested in trying it on but I never, like, mustered up the courage to do it because I guess it is a little nerve-racking,” Kimberly* said. “But I just decided one day- I was at the mall with a friend of mine, and we kind of just looked at each other and were just like ‘Let’s just do it!’”

Once you get over the daunting “Lingerie” sign hanging from the ceiling, the looking around and trying stuff on part is much more entertaining and is such a confident boost.

“I even know some girls who buy it just for themselves,” she said. “They wanna feel special, and they wanna feel sexy. And they do it completely just for themselves.”

Don’t let the fact of being single stop you, either. Lingerie can make anyone feel great; it doesn’t have to be for someone particular.

“I just wanted to see what it would be like,” she said. “And yeah, I guess I wanted to feel a little sexy. And like I said, we Just thought it was a fun thing to do.”

So don’t let fear or intimidation stop you! Grab a friend and go feel like Kendall Jenner in some sexy lingerie.
